How does mobile shredding work? Here’s our essential guide…

What is the difference between mobile shredding and off-site shredding and how does this service work?

This is one of the most commonly-asked questions we encounter in our business.

So, here’s our essential guide to everything you ever wanted to know about mobile shredding!

What is mobile shredding?

This service brings the shredding to your premises. Mobile, or on-site shredding, allows you to control your data at your site while it is being destroyed.

Off-site shredding means your confidential waste will be collected in a secure van and taken to a secure facility where it will be destroyed.

For mobile shredding, after we undertake an initial site survey to ensure there is access and no problem with noise regulations, your shredder is contained in a van which comes to your site and shreds the confidential waste you have collected in bags or lockable bins. You receive an immediate certificate of destruction before we leave, showing you comply with the data protection regulations in the General Data Protection Regulation.

For off-site shredding, you receive a certificate of destruction by email.

We can arrange one-off shreds or a regular mobile shredding service, whatever your business needs.

What happens to your waste?

The end point for your waste is the same for both mobile and off-site services. The data in your shredded waste will not be recoverable because the documents are shredded to such a small size.

Then, the waste will be recycled whenever it’s possible to do so, meaning your waste will become another paper product and enter the circular economy.

This is great for the environment as every ton (0.9 metric tonne) of recycled paper saves 17 trees, three cubic yards of landfill, 380 gallons of oil, 7,000 gallons of water and 4,000 kilowatts of energy.

Our mobile shredding vehicles can shred up to two metric tonnes of waste per hour and they meet the BS:EN15713:2009 standards which comply with EURO 5 or 6 emission standards.

How secure is mobile shredding?

All our mobile shredding staff are vetted thoroughly and have to pass the BS7858 security check and full CRB check.

Our vehicles are also secure and are continually tracked via GPS.

We also look for a secure area of your site which is not accessible by the public at the time you would like your shredding to take place.
